Wedding Veils in Photography

Wedding Veils in Photography

For centuries, wedding veils were used to cover the faces of brides who were “given’ to their grooms. Nowadays, in almost all cultures, brides marry the people they choose and wear wedding veils to enhance their look. From long cathedral veils that make a statement coming down the aisle to birdcage veils that create a retro vibe, there are dozens of types of wedding veils in different lengths and styles to choose from.

To see how your wedding veil can be captured with artistry, and make you look stunning in your portraits, we’ve chosen 20 fabulous photos as this month’s Editor’ Picks that show off veils in uniquely beautiful ways. Scroll down to see a gorgeous array, and see how they were photographed by our members, the world’s best wedding photographers. No doubt, any bride would be grateful to have photos like these from their wedding.

Wedding Veils Accentuated with Light

The first 8 photos in our collection are all about light, which is fundamental to great photography. Taking advantage of the sheer fabric of the wedding veil, these photographers lit up the veils by using both natural light and off-camera flash. The result envelopes the bride with a gorgeous glow and makes the veil stand out.

Wedding Veils Captured in Motion

Wedding veils move when a bride walks and when the wind catches them. Photographers take advantage of the motion to create lovely compositions. By lifting the veil, or letting it float in the breeze, these artists captured movement and made these photographs into outstanding examples of wedding veils in photography.

Documentary Photos of Wedding Veils

Because veils move so easily they are known to create some fun surprises. When the wind shifts, or an object catches them, brides (and photographers) can be taken off guard. To capture the moment and nail both the story and the composition, great photographers use split-second timing to create exceptional photos like the ones below.
